Recommended Websites Cleaning Your Car With Baking Soda Baking soda can be utilized to neutralize battery acid corrosion in cars because it is a mild alkali. When cleaning a battery using baking soda, be sure to disconnect the battery terminals. Carefully scrub it using an old toothbrush and a mixture of 3 tablespoons baking soda and 1 tablespoon warm water. Since baking soda neutralizes acids, this cleans the battery very nicely. After letting the baking soda work for about 5 minutes, wipe them off with a wet towel. Once the terminals have completely dried, apply a bit of petroleum jelly around each terminal to deter future corrosive buildup. Please be careful when working around a battery for it contains strong acid components. If the car battery acid spills on any of your clothes, wash the areas that have been affected in a strong solution of baking soda and water. The solution will neutralize the acid preventing damage.
